Biggest Loser
ByAlright so last night I tuned in a bit late into the show since I was busy training. About the time I turned it on I saw one of the contestants attempting to perform a crescent swing with bad form.
Why? Why do they have to do a crescent swing? What is that supposed to accomplish what a regular swing wouldn’t? And why are they doing that when they haven’t mastered the basic swing? Oh thats right because Jillian and Bob don’t know how to teach or perform it correctly.
Now I don’t know if you follow me on Eric Moss

Create Your Badge but if you do you might have seen I did live updates on what I thought of their training program. I’ll copy and paste them. Note my sarcastic undertones…
“Jillian…if you don’t know how to teach a swing that don’t f__ing try to teach it” 8:35pm
“and why are people that are severely overweight doing plyometrics? what could htat possibly accomplish other then burning out their nervous system?…ripping tendons and ligaments?” 8:45pm
“genius Bob Harper…sheer genius. everybody knows how awesome aerobic training is for fat loss not” 915pm
“ooh unstable surface training…we know how useful that is man oh man there is a lot of material tonight” 916pm
Alright we all know what I think of Jillian and Bob teaching kettlebell training. You might know what I think of them doing plyometrics (explosive jump training). If you want an in depth explanation of plyometrics and its usefulness in a program I could call up my cscs friend Mike Mahon but since he is probably busy and this is already a long post (once you get him talking prepare for a verbal essay) I will just tell you…plyometrics get abused by coaches enough as it is. It is meant as a shock mechanism for your nervous system to increase its explosiveness but it is very draining on the nervous system. A severely obese person’s tendons and ligaments aren’t ready for it. Putting plyometrics in their program not only doesn’t make sense…its irresponsible.
Unstable surface training? This was a fad a couple years ago and it proved to not be effective. What possible use is there for it in a fat loss program? Because you have to use a lot less weight you won’t cause as much of a metabolic disturbance. It won’t help anybody in a functional application (thats what they called functional training years ago) unless you are a surfer or skateboarder.
And the sissy aerobics? You would think an “uber” trainer like Bob the genius Harper would know better then to use aerobics with pink dumbbells in their fat loss program. Go to an aerobics class and take a look at the people in there. Go back in 6 months and tell me whats changed. Believe it or not some people actually GAIN FAT. Yeah REAL productive…and it perpetuates the myth that you need aerobics for fat loss. Pisses me the f___ off.
Alright enough pointing out the problems…here is a solution. This training session can be done at home using just a kettlebell. It uses the Big 5 for fat loss according to body transformation expert Craig Ballantyne author of the best selling fat loss ebook Turbulence Training
This is phase 3. You need to go through phase 1 and 2 before starting this one. Also you need a proper nutrition program to get results. I recommend Isabel’s program The Diet Solution and Mike Geary’s Fat Burning Kitchen
and don’t expect 10lbs a week. 1 – 3 is more reasonable, sustainable and much safer too.
