Biggest Loser
Posted by: | CommentsAlright I am sitting here watching my recorded episode of The Biggest Loser TV show and a bunch of different thoughts came up in my head and I am not even finished watching the episode.
First they stressed “What you take away that you can use at home.” Now let me point out a couple things that some people “took away”. First they showed Danny using kettlebells on his own. What he took away was that terrible form is “ok” or “correct”. Maybe at a whopping 10lbs they won’t cause injury but when you start playing with heavier kettlebells (and a 400lb male should) its a whole different story. Seriously every time I see one of them using a kettlebell I either flinch because such atrocious form is painful for me to watch and at the same time I am infuriated that these people are being taught bad form in the first place and that millions of people are looking at this show thinking that is good form. If you can’t do proper form you can’t teach it. If you can’t teach it the people you show it to won’t be able to to do it. Cease and desist.
Next thing that was taken away. Amanda was in a gym fumbling about the machines in the gym not knowing what to do. So obviously she didn’t take away ANYTHING except for her thinking she should be using the machines. She shouldn’t be using machines and after all that time she should have some semblance of how to train.
Oh wait a minute maybe its because their programs are just a whole bunch of crap mixed together without any semblance of logic. Maybe because she was never shown proper form with free weights to begin with. With the RKC system we can get killer results with just 6 exercises. If you concentrate on those exercises you will know what to do. If you don’t have any kettlebells the hardstyle principals still apply to free weights. Pulling yourself down with your hips, keeping your abs and glutes tight and power breathing work whether you have kettlebells in front in the rack on your back with a barbell or even just body weight (probably the more appropriate one for people of that girth).
Third is I can see one contestant developing an eating disorder which is just as bad as over eating. Now yes her husband should be more supportive but at the same time she doesn’t have to pass it onto other people. When I did that body transformation I knew when to relax and when I had to be a man on a mission. Having a calorie surplus every once in awhile is actually beneficial to your metabolism setting you up for long term success. Also good for your head. The trick is to try to disconnect your emotions from food. Its just food. I enjoy food too but there is a time for relaxation and a time for being a man on a mission. Eat to live, not live to eat and at the same time you have to be able to enjoy life. If you are good 80% of the time you can be bad 20%…just don’t go crazy.
Well enough of that crap its time for the Ultimate Fighter…a show that has trainers that actually know their stuff

I saw some of them practically being crucified this episode. All these people hanging on for dear life suspended above a pool. Their grip being taxed to the limit. And what exactly was the point of that? Do they not know how draining that can be on their nervous system? And why the hell can’t Jillian teach any of them to do kettlebell swings properly? Oh wait…maybe its because she can’t do them herself.
And good job Bob Harper…you injured Coach Mo. That’s real productive and conducive to progress. And them pushing them because “They didn’t see what they were ordering that week?” Well productive progress in fat loss is about balance. You expel too many calories while taking in too little and your metabolism compensates by slowing itself down. That was built into our physiology back when we were living in caves and picked up chicks by “giving them a little tap on the head”. Other then that the weight loss also is a loss of muscle…and water.
The way they should be doing it is measuring body fat loss. The best way to do that is with Hydrodensitometry Weighing (Underwater Weighing). Yeah I know what you are saying “but regular people can’t do that” Well since when is that show about what regular people can do? Can they traing all day long and have chefs prepare healthy meals for them? No. Can you? Maybe…if you have that kind of time and money surely you can find a facility to way you under water. If not a cheaper solution is skinfold tests. If your body fat percentage is going down you are doing a good job.
Or they could just measure their circumference. A smaller circumference means they are losing belly fat which is what everybody wants.
But wait no…that would make sense.
Screw it here is phase 2 of my response to the Biggest Loser Workouts You need healthy and nutritious eating to go along with this. Check out this book The Diet Solution and/or My Fat Burning Kitchen to go along with it. Oh and here is the link to phase 1 of my response to the Biggest Loser Workouts

Getting More Done In Less Time
Posted by: | CommentsI am a big fan of getting more for your buck. Maximize your training time to progress faster per effort put in. I am all about efficiency and that is one of the things that pisses me off about people. They will spend hours killing time on a treadmill (as if life is f’ing short enough???) when they could do it so much faster and more effectively with kettlebells and proper program design. But hell if you want fast results you need to figure out what will work best. That is one concept I thought of where I took the Big 5 movements by Craig Ballantyne the author of best selling e-manual Turbulence Training. If you aren’t familiar with them its
1) push
2) squat
3) pull
4)single leg
5) full body core
and came up with a progression that fits those many times more then one. Here is the video If you like this and you want to burn massive amounts of body fat you really ought to check out Craig’s book Turbulence Training. He is recognized as one of the top experts of fat loss…and he is much much smarter then those PT’s on the Biggest Loser who despite our attempts to fix their form on kettlebell training they still refuse to do it right.
And if you can’t do it right you can’t teach it right
And if you can’t teach it right DON’T F’ING TEACH IT AT ALL!
seriously you don’t see me teaching people how to fix cars. That is because I don’t know how and I know my limitations. But I digress…I read Turbulence Training. I recommend Turbulence Training and I often use it as a template for training people to lose fat and get ripped.

Biggest Loser opinions
Posted by: | CommentsSo this past episode of the Biggest Loser was the notorious “Week 2″ which when explained by them is when your body backlashes by holding onto its body fat making it harder to burn off. In their heads that means they have to push them even harder to get them to lose the weight. Let’s use a little bit of common sense here.
If your body is backlashing against you by holding onto its body fat then maybe, just maybe you should back off a little bit. But I guess cycling the workouts is a foreign concept of these trainers amongst trainers. Genius program design? I don’t think so.
And what blatant advertising when Bobby boy had made a protein drink for one of the contestants. And guess what…she said it was “pretty good”. Would they have aired it if she said “ew that taste’s like $h!t”
And what the hell is this crap about Jillian selling her own crap line of kettlebells? If there is anyone who shouldn’t be teaching this its her. Our offer to teach her proper form on the kettlebells before she hurts somebody is still on the table. And on the cost saving price??? First off any kettlebell that is under 8kgs in my opinion is a joke.
Why? Because the handle would way as much as the bell which defeats the purpose of an offset center of mass which is what makes kettlebells perfect for ballistic movements. And its adjustable plates? Looks like an injury waiting to happen.
Especially if she is teaching you.
oh and one more thing. I found this while researching the show. This is from an overweight person that viewed those trainers as “experts” and guess what…they hurt themselves
“I injured myself because I tried to exercise “hardcore” the way Jillian and Bob push the contestants. I thought that was the way to lose weight because the people on the show do so well with being pushed to their physical limits. But instead of losing the 30 lbs I needed to lose, I tore a tendon in my foot from jogging at my maximum speed on my treadmill while watching the Biggest Loser. I’ve been in agony for months now, and may have to have surgery on my foot. This show should make it clear that people at home should NOT push themselves like the contestants are pushed because it is very easy to get injured, especially when you are not used to exercising. I reallly regret following this show’s example for weight loss.”

re: Biggest Loser Workout
Posted by: | CommentsI have been getting messages about my opinions about the show the Biggest Loser and what I would do different. First I would take a more conservative approach to training that would be better for long term progress. The second is that I would have a better nutrition program then the starvation diets they are currently on. This workout is intended for an obese person so most people would probably find it relatively easy.
the only equipment you need is a Kettlebell.
Second would be a nutrition program. Proper nutrition is absolutely paramount because no matter how hard you train you can’t out train the dinner table. These following e-manuals would provide that service. I recommend the following. The Diet Solution and The Every Other Day Diet
