does it really matter?

fired up again
ok so if you have read my last blog post you might know that what happened in Nashville was devastating. The city had crushing floods that were sweeping away many homes, taking families with it and if it weren’t for the strength and support of the people in that city it would have been like New Orleans all over again.
Now as I am doing a bit of snooping around on the internet, (I wanted to see how the town was doing) I came up on a blog run by Punch Gym in Nashville. You might remember a while back they had posted the grad workout vid on youtube from the Aos cert which I viewed and found no less then 8 serious errors with their form. I’m not talking semantics like my getup is better then your getup or what not but things that would compromise the safety of their clients. Well before I go on another tangent let me explain the reason behind this post. I see that they have a blog post dated May 6th entitled “what kind of music do you like to listen too?”
Really? Is that what is important? Your city was practically destroyed and that’s what you care about? Who really cares what kind of music anyone listens to when people’s lives are still in danger…not a hundred miles away or on the other side of the world but right in your home town. How is it possible that I all the way up here in the dirty Jersey has stuff trying to drum up support on my blog and you don’t? You are caring about that which does not matter.
Nobody gets into the fitness industry for the money alone. Trust me there are a lot easier ways of becoming rich. Ya normally get into fitness training because you care and want to make a difference in people’s lives. I was recently invited to attend the wedding of a bride I trained which to me is a high honor. Why? because I care.
do you care or are you faking it? If you care, show it or more importantly do something because of it.

Hello again Eric. I am the one that wrote to you last time about your inaccuracies with the critique you made about the AOS cert test and your obvious lack of knowledge about certain techniques used during the test to distribute weight/force (i.e. the twisting at the top of the presses etc..) I even mentioned to you to read a couple of books by Alan Calvert and Bernar McFadden (the man considered to be the father of physical culture).
Where I take issue this time is your post about the “music poll” for Punch Nashville. You see, my wife is the owner of this gym along with another coach here with the team. Have you ever been here? Are you aware of why the poll was put up on the sight? Did you know that this has been a long running joke/debate in the gym as to what music goes on the radio first for the workouts? Did you call and ask about the work we have done in our community since the flood and in our own neighborhood where we live that was 5ft under water (fieldstone farms…look it up)? Should life just stop because of the flooding in your opinion and we all wallow in misery down here? Should the Grand Ole Opry have not let the show go on the Friday after the flood because you think they “don’t care”? Should all of the honky tonks down on lower Broadway (on the river) have shut their doors according to you….or kept them open and playing music like they actually did? Do you realize how foolish you sound? I get that you drink the RKC Kool Aid…good for you. Everyone should believe in something and there are a lot worse things out there than RKC. There are some good people involved in that organization…..some right here in Nashville. You, however, bother me because of your lack of knowledge on topics that you obviously have not done the research to investigate properly, but seem to have misguided passion about. I love your passion, it just seems very misdirected. Do realize the video of you with the shake weight is out there forever….I get the intent, but it was not well thought out from a professional point of view.
As for the 8 serious errors in the TGU that you found…I had over $100 million dollars worth of athletes do them this very morning (Friday May 14th) and amazingly, not one injury. In fact, it’s been that way for 4 years now with our team and at Punch Gym for the past year. You’re welcome to come down any time and learn for yourself. Surely, you’re not close minded enough to think that you have all of the answers and that the way we do things in completely without value or merit. We can talk training face to face…wouldn’t that be fun? I’ll turn the music off during your workout, though……since it offends you so. I would be happy to discuss on the phone too if you wish…..reply back with a contact number and I promise to call you.

i don’t think you quite grasp the point of the post. you are right i have no idea what kinds of things you have done for a community that was hit so hard because you never said anything about it. the only reason i even know about the floods was because i had been to Dave Whitley’s blog and saw the pictures. obviously you are aware of the kind of reach the internet has since you all the way down there are able to see some of the things i write about all the way up here. why not leverage some of that to help out? its fine that you care about what your clients enjoy listening to but i haven’t so much as seen a peep about the floods. i would think that spreading awareness of it would be important especially for a man in your shoes since the media gave it practically zero coverage, would take precedence over a poll on what kind of music your clients like. and this has nothing to do with RKC koolaid or not. it has to do with helping out fellow man. aos has roots in rkc. at least you guys test hands on. are you aware that there are now online kettlebell certs? i haven’t talked about that yet because i wanted to spread awareness about the floods first. that cert will be a future rant because right now other things are more important then that. and just so you know as ludicrous as my response to the shake weight actually is that was meant to be an attack on the makers of that device because they are perpetuating the lies that both you and me have to combat. my vid was to show just how ridiculous it is and was meant in good fun. as for the turkish getup i didn’t find 8 errors with it. i found the errors of the workout in general. as a matter of fact i was pointing out that it wasn’t about the turkish getup since we had the same getup and ours changed while yours didn’t. i don’t know how grueling aos is so maybe its simply a matter of being beat up and you have since cleaned up all your errors. do you honestly think im going to give you my number? to what end? im not going to fly down there to train with you whether you play my brand of music or not. congratulations on having that much star power in your facility. i hope you realize just how fortunate you are to have clientele like that.
