Eric, I have decided this year not to make yearly resolutions. As a former project manager, I know that you need to break things down. I do my "resolutions" in 9 week cycles, just like Westside Barbell does their powerlifting programs.

9 weeks gives me a long enough time to get something done, but it is short enough that it is not daunting. Also, if I do something for 9 weeks and it doesn't work, I just replan at the end.

I did this this year, and I just on my final weigh in of 2009 that I lost 34 lbs (209 to 175) while doing minimal gym cardio. I just a little success over 5 1/2 9 week cycles.

Here is the way I look at it, if you can't stay to a plan for 9 weeks, you certainly can't for 52.
