Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture
Posted by: | CommentsI just finished watching the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture fight for the UFC heavyweight championship. Now if you didn’t watch it I don’t want to ruin it for you and you can probably still watch it on youtube at this link if they haven’t taken it down by the time you get to it. In fact I am just going to embed it here. If you weren’t able to watch it and don’t want it ruined read no further. Now I had my metaphorical money on Lesnar but I really wanted Randy to win. Why? Because even though he was champ he was considered the underdog. It was almost like watching the Rocky series unfolding before our eyes. First you have Randy the beloved champ known for his heart, experience and being an all around good guy. Then you have Lesnar who really is like something out of the movies. He reminded me of the Russian in Rocky 4. Freakishly strong with all the right physical gifts. A genetic powerhouse if you will. They had a bit of a different game plan for each of them training wise. Here is the way Brock trained. And here is a video montage of the way Randy trained done to the Rocky theme (obviously I am not the only one that thinks that. Now maybe I need to watch it again but I actually think Randy was winning until he got caught. EVERYONE GETS CAUGHT. I would love to see a rematch but I think it might be Lesnar’s time. Man I wish I could train Randy Couture. I know the first thing I would talk to him about would be kettlebells. Especially after seeing him train using barbell complexes. Kettlebells make the transitions much swifter and their shape allows for high rep olympic style lifts. I also wish they had one of those SkyZone trampoline gyms like the one Randy used for training because that looks like a blast. I wouldn’t want to train Brock because quite frankly he scares the piss out of me.
Ok Brock I will admit and I said this in the beginning that you are VERY impressive and I absolutely would not want to be on your badside. You are the UFC champ but I don’t believe you can call yourself the best until you are the one to hand Fedor his first true loss. Thats what Randy’s mission was when he became champ and defended it. Will you do what nobody else has been able to?

Posted by: | Comments30 single handed swings (36lb kettlebell) each hand
5 clean and press (36lb kettlebell) each hand
5 pistol squats (36lb kettlebell) each hand
5 bent press each side (36lb kettlebell) each hand
5 clean and squat each side (36lb) each hand
5 crush curl and press’ (36lb kettlebell)
1 bent press (53lb kettlebell) each side
“Russian laundry” 1 full length towel and back
training notes = the only things that I really pushed the tension on were the pistol squats, the squeezing of the kettlebell during the clean and press, and the Russian laundry. I do feel like I may have been pushing myself too hard with the pullups so its time to give myself a bit more rest.
