the problem with trainers
BySo last weekend a young girl called me up on my cell. Apparently she is an up and coming personal trainer and was interested in interning under me. Well during our conversation she was basically venting about how it seems that no one was willing to help her and the poor attitude of some of the trainers that she has met while trying to find a mentor. She seems like a good kid so I told her I would help her any way I could and that I could teach her more in 15mins then most trainers can in 3 hours. That and when I first started out it seemed that a lot of people wanted to help me. Why isn’t it the same for her? Well anyways she had told me things like “He saw a person doing something that isn’t safe and I said ‘Aren’t you going to say something to him?’” to which he responded “No. I am not on the clock.” Alright I respect the fact that you would like to earn some money and it is rather hard to make it in this business but that trainer is a MORON for a couple reasons. First off that tip you show him if he is receptive could be the one thing that gets the rookie to want to hire you. Second if the rookie doesn’t hire you maybe…just mabye they will tell someone and they will hire you. Well chances are a trainer like that doesn’t know his sh_t anyways so the rookie is probably better off without his help so he can stumble and learn his way. Now another thing that kind of irritated me is that they would say things like “I already know all that I need to know.” Really genius? That guy must be some kind of master trainer that is the be all and end all….but even if the muscle bound moron is so knowledgable new research comes out all the time. Steve Maxwell is a trainer that is 50 something years old and in his words “I am forever a student of physical culture.” which basically means that he is still learning. So apparently the muscle head is more knowledgeable then even Steve Maxwell is with all of his research and self experimentation and apparently the muscle head is more knowledgable then myself because I wil be the first to admit…I have many answeres but I don’t have all of them and I don’t think any one person does. Fitness is a constantly evolving thing and if you don’t keep learning evolution will pass you by and you will go the way of the dodo bird. Well thankfully the rigors of this business will probably wash him out and they will be better suited to a job that doesn’t require the use of a brain. Maybe with this economy they will get a great job like standing outside of a store holding a sign that sais “going out of business” Or maybe just maybe if they fix their know it all attitude they can evolve as a trainer. Heck the trainer I was 5 years ago isn’t the same trainer I am now. I adapted for reasons why I will go into later but because I adapted I am much more effective now then the past me. And now you can benefit from my evolution. Hell 5 years ago I never would have guessed that something as simple as a cannon ball with a handle would completely change the way I do things.
