Ultimate fighter training
ByWarning spoiler alert
So last night I watched the Ultimate fighter reality show. As you probably know I am a fan of cage fighting and of particular interest is the way the fighters train. You can see some very cool ways of training that the regular folks don’t use. Why? Because if their strength and conditioning isn’t good they are going to get their ass kicked.
Well last nights episode featured an excellent exercise that involves beating the crap out of a tire with a sledgehammer. It really isn’t anything new…just underground. I first heard about it when I read Zach Evan Esh’s kick ass Underground Strength Training manual. It is an exercise that was used by Muhammad Ali and the top ranked mixed martial artist for the past 5 years Fedor Emelianenko. Tremendous for building explosive strength from your toes to your hands and awesome for your grip.
Unfortunately the fighters on the British team didn’t seem to get it. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. These are athletes. They are supposed to have coordination and the ability to judge distances and absorb shocks. Why is it that my client who is 50+ has no problem doing it but these world class athletes are. You know what the problem is? They violated my 8th commandment of health, strength and fitness.. Thou shalt pay attention to what you are doing.
They weren’t paying attention and they got hurt. Don’t make the same mistake.
